The aim of the program is to develop competences in the fields of comparative private and/or international law needed for conducting activities at internationally active national, as well as international and transnational institutions. Get acquainted with modern developments in respective fields and be able to conduct independent research in accordance with NQF VII level competences.

Wide range of choice between the comparative private and international law components enables a student to shape his/her profile in either way: make emphasis on comparative private or international law or to combine components from both concentrations to develop competences most suitable for estimated future employment. Core courses are offered only in the first semester developing competences broadly needed in both fields of concentration.

Methods employed are widely based on the mixture of interactive teaching and promotion of independent personal development through combination of theoretical components and practical experience, aiming at the development of skills and values needed to interpret law in line with the requirements of human rights primacy, i.e. equality and proportionality.

The Graduates will have:

  • Broad and systemic knowledge in the field of chosen concentration, which allows for the generation of new, original ideas and wider understanding of the lawyer’s role in changing and globally reshaped environment;

  • Ability to act in a new, unpredictable and multidisciplinary environment providing the complex assessment of legal problems and developing the original ways for their solution, to employ the most recent methods and approaches to analyse new legislative developments and judicial practice;

  • Ability to make sound judgements on the basis of critical analysis of complex and incomplete information (including analysis of novelties in the context of new legislative regulation, judicial practice or recent research approaches) and ability to synthesise innovatively based on recent data;

  • Ability to communicate own judgements, arguments and research methods to academic and professional community in English language, with due consideration of the academic integrity/disclaiming standards and recent developments in the field of information and communication technologies;

  • Ability to independently manage the learning process, determine the synthesis of theoretical components and practical experience, as well as to expend own knowledge on the basis of recent methods, through the generalised analysis of primary sources, academic articles and court decisions;

  • Ability to evaluate own and others’ attitude towards values, to analyse the existing legal values with a view to fair balancing the party interests and, in the case of need, contribute to the creation of new ones; to develop values needed to interpret law in line with the requirements of human rights primacy (i.e. equality, proportionality) and contribute to the establishment of new solutions.
